Bank of America Bailout
February 24, 2008 at 8:21 pm | Posted in Politics, Rants | 6 CommentsAs the housing and credit crisis deepens, we see that many of these supposed “engines of the American economy” are the moral and ethical equivalent of Cadillac-driving welfare queens. A NYT story outlines Bank of America’s attempt to get a taxpayer-funded bailout. 739 billion dollars is a lot of money – in fact, it’s probably close to what we’ve spent in Iraq. We got nothing from that war and we’re going to get nothing from this bailout.
Here’s a suggestion for Bank of America – fuck you, whore yourselves to an overseas sovereign fund, and strike America from your name.
Why Eating a Big Mac is Cheaper than Eating a Salad
February 23, 2008 at 4:27 pm | Posted in Food and Drink | Leave a commentThe picture below shows the huge disconnect between what the government recommends you eat and what it subsidizes. It’s no wonder we have an obesity problem – money speaks louder than words:
Iraqi TV debate

All Time Low
February 20, 2008 at 10:32 pm | Posted in Politics | Leave a commentLooks like this goofball of a President has finally beaten Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter in the race to the bottom – Nixon’s and Carter’s lowest approval ratings were around 25% and 22% respectively. Bush beat that by a wide margin – only 19% of the American people approve of his performance.
Drobo Backup System
February 18, 2008 at 11:27 pm | Posted in Macintosh, Technology | Leave a commentAndy Ihnatko reviews one of the more interesting backup products at last month’s Macworld Expo. It’s a bit steep at $500 (no drives included), but it brings a Mac-like ease-of-use and abstraction to RAID arrays. The first couple of paragraphs are a fun read.
If my important data needed more than 1 DVD, I’d get a Drobo myself.
Truth In Advertising

Troops vs. Generals
February 10, 2008 at 2:11 am | Posted in Politics | Leave a commentAmerica is in trouble when the generals start to talk, act, and think like politicans. We have to differentiate between the troops we support and the generals (and their political masters) we don’t:
Game Over for Yahoo
February 7, 2008 at 11:45 pm | Posted in Rants, Technology | Leave a commentJohn Gruber says that the Microsoft hostile takeover of Yahoo is all but inevitable. If one looks at the trading volume for YHOO this week, about 50% of its outstanding shares have changed hands. These new shareholders expect the price to stay at current levels and will therefore vote for the Microsoft takeover.
Once this happens, I will start migrating all my Yahoo-hosted content and services elsewhere, whether Google or some other provider.
Vote
February 2, 2008 at 5:37 pm | Posted in Politics | Leave a commentThere’s just something about this politician that makes him different. Many can give great speeches, but not many can break through the cynicism and pessimism that has gripped this country over the last seven years:
