Old Scanners Under MacOS X

My Canon 1240U scanner has been idle since GraphicConverter stopped support of CFM-based Photoshop plugins.

Thanks to the Open Source community, those with older USB scanners can use them under OSX via a TWAIN interface. The SANE project has been ported to the Mac platform. You have to install five separate packages and it relies on Unix utilities, but it works very well. The bottom line is that I get to keep my scanner and avoid using Photoshop.
