AT&T Delivers

About six months ago, I switched cell phone providers from Cingular to T-Mobile. Since then, Cingular screwed over the old AT&T wireless customers and then did a Kerry-style flip flop and swithced their name back to AT&T. However, more insidious is that they, and a few other telecoms, have engaged in a serious breach of privacy by providing necessary technical assistance to the NSA. If the telecoms had been united in saying no, the spooks’ job would have been harder.

Since the NSA is untouchable, the EFF has decided to sue AT&T instead:

Here’s a great discussion about building in intelligence in your day-to-day work. I don’t know about you, but a lot of it resonated with me; I work in an environment where people have to think like software engineers, even though they are neither software engineers nor are expected to be software engineers.
