There is an ongoing discussion between the Cluetrain rebels and more traditional marketing types. One of the points was that Apple is an example of the strength of branding while Microsoft is an example of a company trying to change it’s brand image by advertising company-sponsored bloggers. Currently, an Apple employee doing this may be subject to HR disciplinary action; I suspect this is the policy in most other companies. What interested me was a comment (and ending pun) in Chuq’s blog:

Microsoft bloggers are actually meaningless peons. They are a dog’s tail wagging in a friendly way but don’t forget the other end has sharp teeth and bytes.
