Walmart’s Ugly Face

Walmart has finally announced their position on responsible health care coverage. They have made a last-minute $500,000 contribution to the anti-Proposition 72 campaign in order to continue their reputation for being stingy on benefits.

In their press release, they said that their health plan premiums are reasonable for their workers. THAT’S A LIE. I make at least four times the average Wal-Mart wage and my health premiums are about the same, meaning that as a percentage of their gross pay, Wal-Mart workers are paying four times as much as I am. My health premiums are about average and responsible employers will already be in compliance with proposed Proposition 72 rules. It’s the companies who couldn’t care less about their workers’ health who are against 72. California’s healthcare system is on the edge of collapse and if it does, both those with and without coverage are going to suffer.
