Lying in American culture

Leave it to the current Adminstration for the country to debate the nature of lying. A well-written article from CNN discusses the different kinds of lies from both moral and legal standpoints. The article defines perjury – it is not “lying under oath”, but rather a more precise definition related to the issue the person under oath is talking about. Today’s American political culture, and to a lesser extent, our popular culture, is not one that George Washington, Superman, or the Boy Scouts would like at all. Well, at least our idealized representations of these three American icons.
