Microsoft just doesn’t get it

Here’s a good article that clearly shows why people at Microsoft really don’t get it, even the good-hearted geeks who work for them. Their viewpoint of the world is right out of Highlander (“there can only be one”). Such a world, a monoculture, would be a dreadful place to live in. I support diversity in computing.

Robert Scoble says that if Apple had 98% market share, then OS X would be the target of virus and worm writers. He’s absolutely correct, but he doesn’t get it – we don’t want anyone to have that kind of marketshare. Not Apple. Not Microsoft.

What’s even more galling is his disingenuous response to someone who has lost lots of manhours fixing the Blaster worm and the two to three other worms that have come out this past week. I can’t really believe anyone representing a company would actually say “We’re sorry”. Look, you can be sorry as an individual and share empathy, but don’t ever speak for a company that way. It just doesn’t work.
